Welcoming Baby Mario | In-Home Newborn Photography
One of my favourite things about newborn photography is being invited into a family's home during those precious first weeks after welcoming a new baby.
Recently, I had the pleasure of spending the morning with baby Mario and his wonderful family, documenting this special chapter as they settled into life as a family of five.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear just how adored this little boy already was.
A Newborn Session Full of Love
One thing that shines through every photograph from Mario's gallery is the love that surrounds him.
His proud older brother Olivier and big sister Layla were so excited to be involved throughout the session. Whether it was cuddling their baby brother, checking on him, or proudly posing for photographs, their affection for Mario was impossible to miss.
These sibling photographs are always some of my favourites because they capture a relationship that is only just beginning.
Why I Love Photographing Families at Home
As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I believe the most meaningful photographs are often the simplest ones.
The cuddles on the sofa. The tiny details you'll forget far too quickly. The way older siblings naturally interact with their new baby brother or sister.
When sessions take place at home, families can simply relax into their normal routine. There is no pressure, no rushing, and no expectation for children to sit still or behave perfectly.
Instead, we embrace the beautiful reality of family life and create photographs that feel genuine and personal.
The Benefits of In-Home Newborn Photography
One of the questions I'm often asked is whether families need a perfectly styled home to have an at-home newborn session.
The answer is always no.
In fact, some of the most beautiful galleries are created in ordinary family homes, because the photographs are about connection, not perfection.
There is no need to pack the changing bag, load the car, or worry about getting everyone out of the house on time. Instead, you can stay exactly where you feel most comfortable — in your own space, surrounded by the things that matter most.
Your baby can feed whenever they need to. Older siblings can play with their favourite toys between photographs. You can make a cup of tea, sit on your own sofa, and simply enjoy being together.
The result is a much more relaxed experience for everyone involved.
And years from now, these photographs become even more meaningful. They won't just remind you what your baby looked like. They'll remind you of the home you brought them back to. The nursery you spent months preparing. The sofa where you cuddled them through sleepless nights. The little details that quietly disappear as life moves on.
Capturing Connection Over Perfection
One thing I loved about Mario's session was how naturally everything unfolded.
There was no need for anyone to perform or be anything other than themselves. The children could be children, Mario could be a newborn, and mum and dad could simply enjoy spending time together as a family.
Those are the moments that matter most.
The quick kiss on the forehead. The proud smile from a big sister. The way a newborn curls into their parents' arms.
These are the memories I hope families will treasure years from now. Not just what their baby looked like, but how life felt during those fleeting newborn weeks.
Preserving Your Newborn Story
The newborn stage passes incredibly quickly.
Before you know it, the tiny stretches, sleepy cuddles, milk-drunk smiles, and delicate newborn features begin to change.
Photographs allow you to hold onto these moments and revisit them whenever you wish.
Thank you so much to Maria & Mitchell for welcoming me into your home and trusting me to capture these memories. It was such a joy to spend the morning with your beautiful family and document this special chapter for you.
If you're expecting and would love a relaxed, baby-led newborn session in the comfort of your own home, I'd love to hear from you. Due dates can be reserved during pregnancy, with your session taking place once your little one arrives.
