Twin Newborn Photography in Derbyshire | Welcome to the World, Olympia & Romano
Welcoming one new baby is a huge life change, so I can only imagine the excitement of bringing two little ones home at once! ?
I recently had the absolute pleasure of photographing twins Olympia and Romano at their family home in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. This was my very first twin newborn session, so it was a particularly special one for me, and I couldn't have asked for a lovelier family to share it with.
Both babies were absolute dreams, sleeping peacefully for most of our session and even treating me to plenty of those little windy smiles. And, of course, we had their furry big sister Cleo the Cockapoo to keep us company, who was full of energy and very keen to be involved!
It was such a lovely morning, and I'm so excited to share a little of their story with you.
A relaxed twin newborn photography session at home
One of the things I love most about at-home newborn photography is that we can take our time and let the session unfold naturally.
With two newborns, there are twice as many tiny details to capture, twice as many little expressions to look out for, and plenty of opportunities for those fleeting moments that you might otherwise miss.
During Olympia and Romano's session, both babies settled beautifully, giving us time to capture them individually, together and with their parents.
I love photographing all those little details that change so quickly during the newborn stage: tiny fingers, delicate features, sleepy expressions and the way a newborn curls up so comfortably in your arms.
When photographing twins, it's lovely to capture the similarities between them, but also the little differences that make each baby unique. Even from these early days, their own personalities and expressions begin to emerge.
And alongside the photographs of the babies themselves, it's just as important to capture the family together. These are the first chapters of their story as a family of four, and I wanted their photographs to reflect that.
Including Cleo, their four-legged big sister
No family newborn session would be complete without mentioning Cleo! ?
Their Cockapoo was absolutely full of beans and loved being involved in the session. She was more than happy to make her presence known and was very curious about everything happening around her.
I always love including pets in newborn sessions where possible. Our dogs are such an important part of family life, and a new baby is a big change for them, too.
Whether your dog wants to be close by, sit beside you on the sofa or simply pop into a few photographs, we can make space for them in a way that feels comfortable for everyone.
These photographs are about your family as it is right now, and that includes the furry members who were there before your little one arrived.
What is it like to have newborn twins photographed at home?
If you're expecting twins, you might be wondering how a newborn photography session works with two babies rather than one.
The lovely thing about an at-home session is that there's no need to rush anywhere or fit around a studio appointment. You have everything you need close by, and we can work at a pace that suits your family.
My sessions are always baby-led. We allow time for feeds, nappy changes, cuddles and settling whenever they're needed. With twins, that flexibility is especially important, as both babies may need something different at different times.
There's no expectation for both babies to sleep at the same time or for everything to go perfectly to plan. We simply work with whatever your little ones need on the day.
Some of my favourite photographs come from the moments in between: a parent cuddling one baby while the other rests nearby, those first moments together as a family, or a tiny expression that appears for just a second.
You don't need to worry about making everything happen at once. I'll gently guide you throughout the session, while leaving plenty of room for things to unfold naturally.
When should you book a newborn photographer for twins?
If you're expecting twins, I recommend getting in touch during pregnancy to reserve space around your due date.
Twins sometimes arrive earlier than expected, so having your photographer booked in advance can give you one less thing to think about once your babies are here.
I reserve space around your estimated due date and arrange the actual session after your babies arrive, when you have a better idea of how you're feeling and what works for your family.
Every family is different, and there's no need to feel pressured to have your photographs taken on a particular day. We'll discuss the timing together and find a suitable date for your session.
And if your twins have already arrived, please don't assume you've missed your chance. Get in touch and we can talk about availability and what might work for you.
